You want to come back to your favourite cup, an inviting bed and a corner that feels unmistakably yours. Guests should also be able to open a wardrobe and sit down to dinner without asking how everything works.
Furnishing for both starts with a practical core, a place for your belongings and an easy way to prepare the rooms between stays. These decisions can begin before your next visit, with a proposal based on how you will actually use the house.
Start with two ordinary afternoons
Yours might involve a book, an open terrace door and dinner for two. A family’s afternoon might involve luggage, more people around the table and a bedroom and living room being used simultaneously.
You are not designing two houses. Identify where needs differ. Which comforts matter most to you? How many people will normally stay? What personal belongings remain? Who will prepare the property when you are away? Those answers help you choose furniture for everyday use, not just for the first photograph.
Your private cupboard should not take over their wardrobe
Keeping clothes, personal items or your own textiles on site saves carrying them each time. But check what storage remains after those things are put away.
Distinguish accessible guest storage, your defined private area and space for spare textiles or preparation supplies. Ask specifically if you need a suitable lockable section; not every piece includes one. There is no universal wardrobe percentage. Try a practical test: can the expected guests unpack without turning dining chairs into luggage stands?
Sleeping places need seats at the table too
A sofa bed adds flexibility, but it changes the living room when open. Bedding needs a home, pieces may need moving and people still need to pass through.
Picture everyone using the property at once. Can someone reach the terrace? Where does luggage go? Where will everyone have breakfast? Adding two sleeping places to a two-bedroom home normally used by four does not itself make the whole house comfortable for six. Check seating, dining and circulation. This is a layout example, not a recommendation or authorisation of occupancy. If the room must be rebuilt every evening, compare alternatives.
Choose what you love, and ask how to care for it
Practical furniture can have warm colours and personality. For upholstery, ask about the instructions for the specific fabric and whether a cover is actually removable and washable. Appearance cannot establish those properties.
Check the care of table finishes and leave access for making beds. Ask about mattress protection compatible with the model. A coordinated palette can make it easier to introduce another piece later, without guaranteeing ongoing availability. The useful question is whether you enjoy living with the furniture and whether it suits the care it will receive.
A sense of the Costa Blanca, without a themed interior
A cove in Xàbia, Altea’s pale façades or light on the sand in Guardamar can inspire a colour or a photograph. You do not need nautical decorations on every surface. Space to breathe and a connection between interior and terrace can feel more personal.
For outdoor pieces, think about exposure, required care and storage. The look of a material does not confirm suitability for every terrace.
Change between stays without dismantling your home
Personal items return to their place, guest storage is cleared and each room returns to a familiar arrangement. A general room photograph and a short list can help the person preparing it; do not include private information they do not need.
For your arrival, bring out your own items or reserved textiles. For guests, leave their storage accessible, intended textiles in place and somewhere for luggage. In both situations, the main furniture should work without a complete rearrangement. Cleaning, key handover and guest support must be arranged separately; a furniture proposal does not include them by implication.
Decide what matters, even while you are away

Before choosing, check that your belongings do not occupy guest storage, sleeping arrangements fit the shared spaces, product care is understood and preparing either kind of stay is straightforward. Separate what the proposal includes from arrangements you make elsewhere.
Do I have to give up a bedroom designed around me?
No. Keep your priorities for rest, then review storage, lights, access and space around the bed for others.
